RHP Dave Roberts led the way for the Dodgers in Middleborough during a Saturday afternoon pitching duel in which he delivered 9 strong innings en route to a complete game 6-2 victory. Three consecutive singles and some aggressive base running by the Dodgers in the top of the 7th knotted the game at two apiece and sent the game into extras. Both offenses went down quietly in the 8th before Rudy Hersh delivered what would prove to be the game winning blast in the top of the 9th -- a bases loaded gap shot double to left center. Hersh himself would also score on an overthrow, sealing the victory. Both Red Sox runs scored on wild pitches with Ferdinand and Bernier touching the plate in the 3rd, including one WP that came on an attempt to steal home. Drew Cumming (3-3, HBP) and Jeff Hall (2-3) also provided fuel to the Dodgers offense while Dave Dow served up several highlight reel defensive plays at the hot corner. |
