In a rematch of their August 2nd regular season game, the Royals sent Ryan Bowen to the hill once again countered by Greg Doucette of the Gators. The Gators scored first in the top of the first inning on an RBI ground out by Jay Thomas, but the Royals would plate 4 of their own in the bottom of the frame. Capped off by a big two run double by Mike McKie who also added an RBI ground out in the 3rd inning. The Royals scored three more runs in the 4th on a two run single by Ryan Ritell and an RBI single by Scott Weber. Weymouth Cubs 9, Lawrence Yankees 6
In an epic die-or-die game in which both starters went 9+ as the game went into extra innings, the Cubs bookmarked the game with four run 1st and 10th innings while the Yankees initially clawed back to tie the game at 5 in the 4th inning and were able to get 1 back in the 10th. But that was not enough to beat Billy McGee, who went 9.1 innings and giving up 3ERs while striking out 7. McGee gave way to Eric Walz who recorded the two out save in the 10th only seconds before the lights (on an automatic timer) turned off. The Cubs move on to face the Malden Braves on Sunday. |
