In a great pitchers' duel between Eric Walz and Paul Aseltine, which saw 2 of the 3 runs score on wild pitches/passed balls, the Boston Cubs held on to defeat the Pirates 2-1 at Twi Field in Danvers. The Cubs offense was sparked by Brian McCarthy who went 2-3 with a 2B, 3B, R, and RBI. Eric Walz got the CG victory striking out 8 and giving up only 3 hits while surrendering only 1 unearned run. Aseltine pitched extremely well through 5 and Andy Burkett came in to escape a basesloaded, no out jam in the 6th to keep the Pirates in the game right until the end.

Though walking 5 batters Ramos held down the Pirates long enough for the Braves to score 6 and solidify their lead in the conference. Mark Maloney (1-3; 2RBI, 2B, 2R) lead the charge in the 2nd inning with a two-run double which have the Braves as much as they would need. After being held scoreless for nine straight innings, the Pirates bats came alive against the Yankees in Game Two. The Bucs erased a 7-2 deficit thanks to some timely hitting off a parade of Yankees pitchers. Jackson Schuyler led the way for the Pirates, going 2-3 with a double and 3 RBI. Nate Fishman worked six strong innings for his second win of the season.

With two outs and no one on in the seventh, the Pirates put together a game winning rally on a hot Sunday in Pepperell. All Star shortstop Kevin English got it started with a single through the left side off Red Dogs starter Jeff Tully. He stole second, then came around to score on a Jory Curran infield single that would be the eventual game-winner. Andy Burkett turned in another complete-game effort on the hill, scattering five hits for the W.

The Bucs offense continued their merciless onslaught of Giants pitching in the second game of Sunday's double header. Veteran Jory Curran lead the offense going 2 for 3 with a double. Rookie Nate Fishman got the start for the Pirates and was opposed by Brandon Dooley. Fishman shined, pitching a complete game two-hitter without letting a ball out of the infield until the 6th inning. He compiled a final line of 7 IP, 2 H, 1 R (0 ER), and 11Ks to secure the Pirates 7th win of the season. The Pirates next opponent will be the Thunder on Sunday at 9:30am in Cambridge.

The Pirates bats were out in full force on Sunday for game one of a doubleheader versus the North Shore Giants. The Bucs offense jumped out to a 9-2 lead in support of starter Paul Aseltine. Rookie Kevin English lead the way going 3 for 3 with a walk, two runs, an RBI and a stolen base. Aseltine held his own until tiring in seventh, but Andy Burkett relieved him and shut the door with tying run on second base for a two out save.

Looking to bounce back from a loss in Game 1 of the double header, the Royals wasted no time as they opened Game 2 with 5 straight hits. Gary Carmona, Scott Weber, and Bryan Weber each picked up RBIs as the Royals plated 5 runs in the first inning. Chris Johnson picked up his 3rd win of the season going 5 innings giving up 3 runs (2 earned) on 8 hits with 5 Ks. Scott Weber added some insurance in the top of the seventh when he launched a solo homerun over the left field fence. Matt Bui and Eddie Lockhart each pitched a scoreless inning of relief and the Royals went on to win 7-3.

The Quincy Pirates snapped a three-game losing streak on Friday night when they knocked off the East Boston Titans in Peabody. Paul Aseltine bounced back from a rough start as he carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning en route to the complete-game win. The Bucs rookies powered the offense as they accounted for six of the team's seven RBI. Nate Fishman was the star, finishing 3-3 with a triple, a run scored, and two RBI. Matt Boleski (1-2, RBI) was the big bat for the Titans in the loss.

PEABODY - The Waltham Nationals have went on to even their record to 4-4 on the young season. The Nationals got an "ace" pitching performance from lefty Eric Brooks. Brooks through the complete game gem, only allowing 2 runs in the first inning and then settling down. His line for the night was 4 hits, 2 walks, 10 K's improving his record to 2-2 this year. Offensively, the Nats banged out 10 hits off of Pirates pitcher Andy Burkett. Everyone chipped in to provide the offense and it allowed for some timely runs.

The Boston Cubs defeated the Quincy Pirates 6-4 in Cambridge today. The Cubs plated 5 runs in the first, but the Pirates battled back to make it a one run game at 5-4 in the 6th. Cubs starter Eric Walz escaped a basesloaded, full count jam with a strike out to end the threat in the 6th, and the Cubs added an insurance run in the bottom of the 6th before turning the ball over to closer Billy McGee for a 1-2-3 save. The Cubs improve to 3-1 on the season, while the Pirates fell to 2-2.

Quincy Pirates starting pitcher Andy Burkett stole the show in a 6-1 Pirates win over the Malden Braves on Friday night in Lawrence. Burkett allowed just one run on two hits while striking out nine in his first start of the season. As for the Bucs offense, they didn't exactly shine against Braves starter Derek MacDowell, but they were able to take advantage of some miscues en route to their second-straight win.

The Quincy Pirates picked up their first win of the season thanks to strong pitching, timely hitting, and flawless defense. The Bucs used a big fourth inning rally to take a lead that they would never give up, giving rookie pitcher Steve Marfione his first win. Andy Burkett pitched the final three innings for the save, while Doug DiCola took the loss for the Thunder.

The expansion Norfolk County Mariners started their season off strong defeating the Quincy Pirates 3-1 behind a stellar performance from ace Alec Palioca (5.2IP,2H,0R,9K's). Pirates pitcher Paul Aseltine (CG,4H,3R,6K's) kept the Mariners bats at bay for the majority of the game, but in the 3rd inning the M's rallied for all 3 of their runs. The inning was highlighted by Ryan Manning stealing home during a pickoff attempt at 1st base -- a bold, heads up play by the young 3rd baseman. The Pirates rallied in the 7th, but inevitably came up short with Connor Brown earning his first save.
