If you thought game 1 was a pitcher's duel, game 2 was an epic pitcher's duel. This one went 14 innings. The Cardinals scored in the first and the Mets tied it in the 7th. The game was just getting started at that point. In the 13th, Graham Gaudette hit a Sac Fly to knock in what appeared to be the winning run. But, the Cardinals battle back in the bottom of the 13th. The Cardinals loaded the bases with no outs. After a strike out and a grounder to first that cut the runner down at the plate, Jeremy Ames laced a single to score the runner from 3rd. Going for the win, the Cards sent the runner from 2nd but he was cut down at the plate for out #3. On to the 14th. The Mets got a runner to 3rd with 1 out. The cleanup hitter hit a hard ball to third. Surprisingly, the runner broke for home. The third baseman could not believe it but took his eye off the ball slightly and after a quick bobble, could not get the runner at home. Two more single

The playoffs are about pitching, defense, and timely hitting. This game showed all of that. Tommy Langmeyer, the longtime legend for the Cardinals, threw one of his best games all year. He kept the hard hitting Mets off balance all game. But it was not enough. Al Robillard was dominant for the Mets. Robillard had a no hitter going with 2 outs in the 5th until 2 straight singles by the Cardinals. The Mets scored first in the 2nd on a ground out and added another in the 3rd after a double by Kirk Russell and single by Scott Veith. The Cards hung tough and plated a run in the 5th to cut the lead in half after a 2 out walk to Wade Krejdovsky, a no hit busting single by Scott Johnson, and an RBI single by Pete Anderson. Robillard helped himself with a clutch 2 out single in the 6th to plate Donny McAndrews. Robillard finished with 10 Ks in the complete game victory.
