Waltham Red Sox 6, Braintree Braves 5
A win you're in, lose your season's over game for Walsox. Sox get one in the first but Braves plate 2 taking advantage of some extra outs.
Sox put up 3 in the 2nd, then 2 more in the 3rd to build a 6-2 lead. But in bottom 3, two walks followed by a Tenney double and Lester single score 3 to make it a 6-5.
Waltham hit into two doubles plays on the night but the biggest DP was the one they turned. In the top of 4th, bases loaded 1 out, grounder to Varakis at third, to the plate, to first to complete the inning ending 5-2-3 double play.
To the 7th. With no outs Joff Smith doubles and goes to third on a past ball. But the sox strand him and a huge insurance run is left 90 feet away. Bottom 7th for Braves, runner on second with no outs but he would be stranded there after two infield pop ups and a ground out to end the ball game.
Tarez Mcneil, Tim Varakis and Joff Smith all with multi hit games. |

Braintree Braves 3, Natick Knights 3
The Knights and Braves played to a 3-3 tie on a drizzly evening in Natick. Down 3-2 in the bottom of the 6th with one out and the bases loaded, the Knights tied the game on a swinging one-hopper that appeared foul but was quickly picked up by the catcher. The runner was thrown out at first, but the tying run scored when it was ruled the catcher never stepped on the plate prior to throwing to first.
The Knights had a chance to win it with two outs and a man on first in the bottom of the 7th, when Richie Figueroa launched a ball over the left fielders head, but the runner stumbled rounding 3rd and had to retreat. After intentionally walking the next batter, Robert Austin got the next batter to fly out to left to end the game.
Both Worthley and Figueroa pitched well while Otis Lester went 3-3 with 2 runs and an RBI for the Braves.
