The Middlesex Brewers defeated the Hyde Park Rangers to advance to the American League semifinals vs. the Newton Red Sox. In short, the Brewers error-free performance is what led them to advance.
In the first inning, the Brewers tacked on 5 runs behind 4 hits assisted by 3 errors. After that, the game was evenly played.
The Rangers' greatest threat to come back was in the 5th inning. They led off the inning with 3 consecutive hits, but after a flyout to right, Scott Isaacs lined hard to rightfield. Brett Rudy made a diving catch and doubled off the runner at first to keep HP scoreless that inning. |

The Brewers put on a dominating performance, led by monster games by Josh Weinstock (3-3, 2B, 5 RBI), Jay Thomas (2-2, 2B 1st MSBL HR, 3 RBI), and Jimmy Creedon (3 for 3, 2 2B).
Jay Thomas also notched his 1st MSBL win, tossing 5 strong shutout innings, while Owen Carlson and Angelo Amico both tossed scoreless frames in their comeback games.
The Giants had 5 scattered hits, led by skipper Mike Costa who went 2 for 2. Capt. Dan Hamilos took the hard-luck loss, going the distance. |
