Too much action tonight to give a short description. You were either there or you miss a fun summer night of baseball.

Best play of the night (arguably, there were a lot of them)... After knocking home the go ahead run in the 6th, Freddi Carrera came flying around the bases on a hit by Nate Hodor, looking like a bullet train diving head first through Beacon catcher Kyle McKay's legs to score a much need insurance run. And needed is was, as in the bottom of the inning Drew Tambling hit a monster home run into the top of the right field trees at McConnell Park to cut the score to 9-8.

Everybody was involved in the Hornet's offense as 9 of different players scored runs. Multiple hits were recorded by Pat McClay (3, triple, 3 rbi), KC Murphy (2, run scored), Henry Spitzer (2, bb, triple, run scored, 3 rbi) and Alex Criscuolo (3, bb, run scored, 2 stolen bases).

The Astros snap their 6 game losing streak tonight at home with a 4-2 victory over McKay Club.

The story of the game was starter Brad Presler, who went 6 strong innings giving up only one unearned run. Presler was aided by outfield assists from Baldassari and Reyes, gunning down 2 potential runs at the plate. Astros pitching was also helped out by a botched suicide squeeze and a final out at the plate to end the game. Rodriguez had a very busy night behind the dish.

Offensively Francis Reyes led the way (2-3, 2B, RBI, 2SB, 2 runs scored). Roger Peguero also broke out of his slump with a 2-3 night, knocking in 1 RBI.

The neighborhood rival Savin Hill Hornets and McKay Club Beacons locked heads for another pitcher’s duel at McConnell in just three short days. The Beacons prevailed by the same score as Sunday 2-1. Different tossers were on the bump for each team of course. Eric MacIver (0-1) got the call for the Hornets. Eric pitched 6 innings; allowed 2 runs on 5 base hits. He pitched well enough to get a victory. Kevin Loveless got his first start of 2012 for the beacons. Kevin tossed 7 innings. He allowed a solo run in the 3rd on 6 base hits. He K'd 4 and walked 4.

The Beacons were led by Captain Jack Owens. Jackie was put in the lead off slot and he led the game with a solid single. He died on base as the Hornets pulled off a nifty 4-6-3 double play on a Ryan Walsh scorcher up the middle. The Beacons have enjoyed some fun with two outs of late. They had 2 down in the third when they plated their only 2 runs of the night. Kyle Power had

Nothing has come easy for Tom Fitzpatrick & the McKay Club in 2012. They have to EARN every win in this “dog fight” of a season. Savin Hill does not have a very good record --- BUT – they have a good team. This sunny day at McConnell Park brought two young aces against each other in a tremendous 7 inning battle. Michael Isaia was perfect on the season with a 2-0 record. Fitzy celebrated his first win last Sunday over Al Thomas. His mates only produced 2 runs as they did against the A’s last week. But, that was enough for a Beacon 2-1 win.

Isaia pitched 4 no hit innings and was a victim of an unearned run in the 3rd.

Brian Mylett was hit by a pitch in that 3rd stanza then stole 2nd base. Ryan Carrier reached in an error. RBI machine (7) Dylan Perez reached on a fielder’s choice to plate Mylette.
The Beacons would get their 2 hits in the 6th. Perez singled with one out stole 2nd then came home on a smash up the middle

The Beacons advanced and defeated the Revere Rockies at Chelsea HS by a score of 8-4. Brian Mylett was called upon once again by the Beacons. Brian is having control problems right now. He only lasted 2.2 innings after walking 6, hitting a batter and allowing 3 runs (2 earned) in that span. John Nee was called upon in relief and shut the door to the Rockies.

Neezo tossed 4.1 innings; allowed 1 unearned run on 4 hits. Neezo’s record is 1-1. His only other pitching assignment was in the fog at East Boston Stadium a month a go. This was a huge pick me up for the beacons, by Nee!

McKay Club batters: Drew Tambling (3-4; triple & 2 singles: 2 runs scored and 1 RBI); Kyle McKay (3-4; 3 singles; 2 stolen bases; scored 3 times & had 2 RBI); Rob Lerro (3-4); 3 singles, a stolen base an RBI and a runs scored) and Captain Jack Owens (2-3; 3 RBI and a big sac bunt to produce a run in the 4th) led the 13 hit attack.

Will Clang and Tom Fitzpatrick battled for the third time on Sunday. Each of the previous games went to Clang & the A's: 1-0 play off clincher '11 & Opening Night '12 - 5-3 both A's wins. Fitzy won today in a shut out 2-0. His complete game 4 hit victory was his first against four tough losses. Clang was equal to the task & tossed a gem.

Some inside baseball was called for by the Beacons as Matt Samela came thru with a big 2RBI - 2 hit day to bolster a depleated McKay Club Roster.

This goes down as one of the fastest games in YBL history as well. It was a 1 hour & 15 minute affair. The environment at Cunningham Park in Milton by the way is the BEST venue in our League we are very thankful to be able to play at least one game a year there!

Once again the YBL pitching has improved up and down the league as a whole. Hits were scattered at best in this game with both teams having chances. A Couple of bad "McConnell" bounces helped the visiting team tonight and timely hitting with runners on base was the difference maker.

Tough loss once again by newcomer Tom Fitzpatrick. Win / Loss column does not do this young man justice as he once again pitched well in the loss. McKay Club had their runners on base and were very steady with multiple SB's to get runners in scoring position all night long but Malden Bulldogs were able to get out of a few jams.

Kenny Luongo for Malden Bulldogs proved again to be "slow" and steady as he improved to 3-0 on the young season. Solid 2 innings of relief by Evan Tardugno who has finished his extended "spring training" and seems to have found his "mojo" from 2011. Sol

Brian Mylette (19 year old) from Dorchester returned from his D3 Championship journey to help out the McKay Club. The beacons survived the tough loss of Tom Fitzpatrick to a collegiate league and defeated a very well-constructed Revere Rockies club 8-7. It was drew Tambling who got the win of all people. Drew came in to end a 3 run rally with two on and two out in the 6th. He K's Power hitting Adam DelRio to end that madness.

The game went back and forth all night. Tony Iafolla smashed a sky rocket to right for a triple and scored on an over throw relay to take the lead in the 2nd. His catching rival Kyle McKay belted a 410ft bomb to left to lead off the bottom of the stanza for a triple. He promptly scored on a Jack Owens single. The Beacons took the lead when Ryan Carrier walked. Dylan Perez hit a perfect Sac bunt to move the runners along. Matt Samela plated Owens with SAC fly to left.

Jacky Higgins had no idea he was going to start tonight when he arrived at Ronan Park. The never-ending drama - which IS the McKay Club 2012 season continued as the original starter pulled a no show - no call. Mr. Higgins the 19 year old college freshman from South Boston & BC High stood up and did the job. This was Jacky’s YBL debut and he pitched his butt off!

Higgins was solid as he tossed 6 complete innings allowing only 4 hits and 1 run. He walked 4 and K'd 5 JM Force batters. Jacky got out of jams in the first and sixth innings in style. Jon Pelletier came on for a fun filled 7th inning to seal the deal.

On a foggy damp evening in downtown East Boston the Knights welcomed the Beacons to EB Stadium to square off in the first game of three between these new division rivals. The Knights outlasted the Beacons in a match up between a young Sean Hannon and the gritty veteran John Nee. The Knights scored a run in the second inning on a high fly ball to left field that got lost in the fog by Ben McBide, which ended up a triple, and scored on a broken bat single by Wilson Mercado to take a one run lead. That broken bat would come back to haunt the Knights and Mercado as he ended up getting ejected using a composite bat he found in the team bag in the 4th inning. The Knights scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 7th taking advantage of walks and an RBI single by Maza. Hannon was the story in this one capping it off by striking out Drew Tambling for the 4th time of the night with the bases loaded and the tying run on second base to end the game

Great early season baseball between the Beacons and the Dodgers. The Dodgers struck with a run in each of the first 2 innings, and were able to stymie 2 Beacons from scoring with 2 close plays at the plate. Both teams battled all night with the Beacons answering each of the Dodgers runs, and both pitchers grinding out innings to give their teams a chance to win.

Things looked bleak for Beacon Hill in the bottom of the 7th when Tambling reached to start the inning, but even after loading the bases, Steve DeFusco was able to sack up and get a big K to leave the bags juiced. The Dodgers were able to put 2 across in the 8th with big hits from, Billig, and Duffy to start the inning, and a huge 2-run single by Steve Walsh with the bases loaded. DeFusco shut the door in the bottom of the inning, and preserved the W.

Jon "Parkway" Merritt had a solid first start of the year, and Fitzpatrick went all 8 in a very well pitched game.

The Big Apple Circus broke down the Big Top on City Hall Plaza and moved into McConnell Park for a one night stand. The Brighton Braves (winners of their last 12 regular season games in 2011) came out with all guns blazing. They scored 10 runs in three innings due mostly to walks and errors by the Beacons. Sam "The MAN" Shaughnessy (3-4 4RBI) blasted a mamouth 3 run HR to take advantage.

The Beacons recovered from a 10-4 deficit and won!

Drew Tambling saved the day for the Beacons. He smashed 2-HR's of his own (3-4 2R & 4RBI). Both were moon shots. His 2nd blast destroyed a motor vehicle parked outside the RF fence about 400ft away from HP. Ryan Carrier came on strong with 3 hits in 4 trips. Chris Deane, Kyle McKay and Matt Samelia also chipped in with 2 hit nights. Welcome aboard Pat Lynch (2-3 & 3RBI) had the game winning hit before the light time limit ended the game.
