Seth Grossman singled home Greg Cote in the bottom of the 8th inning as the Mets edged the Marlins, 4-3, and clinched the final playoff berth in the Baystate Conference. Cote had led off the inning with a triple to left-center.

Steve Roberts pitched a gem for the Mets, allowing 1 earned run and 7 hits over 7 innings with 1 walk and 5 Ks. Tim Fortune (6-2) vultured the win by tossing a perfect 8th.

Paul Bracco's home run to left-center gave the Marlins a 3-2 lead in the top of the 5th, but the Mets took advantage of a pair of Marlins errors with 2 outs in the bottom of the 5th to tie the score.

Grossman continued his torrid hitting with 2 hits and 2 RBIs. He is 12-for-his-last-20. Cote also had a pair of hits including the triple.

For the Marlins, Neil Doherty took a tough loss, going the distance and allowing just 4 hits and 1 earned run after the 1st inning. Karl Cyr was 2-for-4 for the Fish.

Tom Spoth pitched another strong game for the Royals to get his 3rd win of the year. Tom K'd 7 over 5 innings and gives up 1ER on 5 hits.

On the offense, Travis Taliaferro sparked the top of the lineup by reaching base in all five PAs and scoring 3 runs (2 for 2, 3BB, 3R, 3SB)
Greg Kosc (2 for 3, 3B, R, 3RBI) also had a multi-hit game for the Royals. Corey Son (1 for 2, HR) hit a 7th inning home run to help ice the win.

For the Marlins, Chris Ryan (2 for 4), Paul Bracco (2 for 3, 2R) and Davin Wilfrid (2 for 3, RBI) all had multi-hit games.

Matt Harrington of the Marlins was the story of the game on the mound. Matt came on in the 2nd inning and pitched 6 innings while giving up 3 earned runs on 5 hits, 9 K's and no walks.

Davin Wilfrid went 3 for 4 with 2 RBI's and Bill Elliott continued his hot hitting by going 3 for 4 with 3 RBI's including 2 triples.

For the Royals, Travis Taliaferro was 1 for 3 with 3 stolen bases and 2 runs scored.

Back in the saddle. Bryan Gauvin was absolutely magnificent in his return to pitching duties. In picking up his 7th win, Gauvin went 4 scoreless innings and recorded 11 of 12 possible outs as strikeouts while allowing just 2 hits.

Meanwhile, the Yanks offense exploded for a season high 21 hits including 6 homeruns and a cycle by Todd Steffanides. Five Yankees had 3 or more hits:

The Yankees Paul Reggio scattered 10 hits while allowing 1 ER to improve to 3-0.

Down 3-2 going into the bottom of the 4th, the Yanks bats came to life. After a Mike Moloney (2-3, 3 RBI, 3B, HR) 2-run homerun, Jeff McHugh (2-3, 3B, RBI) followed with a triple. Jeff Coveney (1-1, 2B, RBI) then followed with an RBI double. Greg Crossman (2-3, RBI) capped off the 4-run inning with a run scoring single.

AJ Bucciarelli (2-3, 2R) and Todd Steffandies (2-4, 3B, RBI) also had multi-hit games.

For the Marlins, Chris Ryan continued his torrid pace going 3-3 on the day to improve to a lofty .686. Andrew Mierisch picked up the loss on the mound.

Shane Steffens struck out 14 and picked up the complete game win, and Michael Ferris had a huge day for the Cubs, going 3-4 with 2 RBI's including knocking in the game winning run in the bottom of the 7th. The Cubs were up 5-1 going in to the top of the 5th, when Reardon homered for the Marlins to start them off. 4 hits later and the game was tied at 5 all. Steffens then led off the bottom of the 7th with a triple. The Marlins intentionally walked the next two batters to get the force at home but Ferris hit the second pitch over the head of the leftfielder to win an exciting game.

Pat Donovan worked a complete game and picked up his first MABL win. Eric Bennett was 2-for-3 and tripled and scored in the first to put the Sox on top. Dan Williams lead off the fourth with a home run. Pat Ellard doubled home Donovan in the fifth and Michael Bautista (2-3, SB RBI) drove in Ellard for some insurance.

The Marlins played superb errorless defense and got a strong effort from Andrew Mierisch who worked a complete game striking out 8.

Donovan earns win #1. Mierisch K's 8. Bill Elliot was 2-for-3 on the night.

Matt Harrington went the distance for the Marlins, striking out 9 and scattering 3 hits, but needed an outstanding defensive play to preserve the victory in the bottom of the 7th.
With the bases loaded, one run in and one out in the inning, TJ Martin singled to center. Paul Bracco came up firing and cut down potential tying run Kevin McGowan at the plate on a bang bang play. Harrington then recorded the final out via strikeout, and the Marlins escaped with the win.
Karl Cyr went 3 for 3 and scored 3 times, and Davin Wilfrid continued to make himself at home in the Marlin Teal, with 3 hits in 4 trips with 2 RBI.

The Marlins broke open a close game with a 10 run 6th inning to make a winner of Neil Doherty (6IP, 4R, 3K). Bill Elliott and newcomers Davin Wilfrid and Rick Dolan all scored twice in the inning, as the Marlins sent 13 men to the plate after managing only 3 hits through the first 5 innings against Kevin McGowan of the A's.

Ryan Thompson stole 3 bases for the A's to extend his league lead in the category.

The Marlins and A's face off in the rubber game of the season series this Thursday night.

Doherty wins his first of the season; Thompson steals home in the 3rd.

Chris Allen pitched a complete game 5 hitter, in the 8-3 victory today vs. the Marlins at Fallon Field. For Allen, it was his third win of the season, and first since May 22nd, also against the Marlins. Offensively, the Braves received multiple hit games from Paul Schneider (2b, 3b), Chris O'Sullivan, and Jesse Kennedy. Paul Bracco went 2-3 in defeat for the Marlins.

Not to be denied in this wild affair at Healy, the Astros erased an early 4-0 deficit early on, blew a 9-5 lead in the fifth, and battled back from Marlin leads of 11-9 and 12-11 in the fifth and sixth to ultimately triumph 15-12 (and give replacement manager Tyler Walsh a mild coronary in the process).

Craig Genualdo earned the win in relief for the 'Stros with three solid innings to finish the game. The general also tossed in a 2-for-3 performance at the plate with two RBI and two runs scored. He was one of six Astros with multiple hits in the game, including Tim Clark, the offensive star of the game (2-for-4, 3RBI, 2R), Matt Cronin (2-4, 2RBI , R), Nate Kenyon (2-3, 2RBI, 2R), and Tony Ricupero (2-3, 2R).

Chris Ryan paced the Marlins offense going 3-for-5 with 3RBI and 2R. Karl Cyr also had three hits while plating one and scoring twice.

The Mariner offense was led by Corey Adoupolis who went 4 for 4 with a walk and 2 runs scored. Steve Gray, Mike Freni, Darren Martineau, and Mark Balfe each had multi-hit games as well. In total, eight out of nine Mariners in the starting line-up each had at least one hit and one run scored. Justin Wetherby picked up his second win of the season scattering 9 hits over the complete game performance. Justin recorded 7 strike outs along the way.
Paul Bracco, Josh Misiph and Chris Ryan each had multi-hit games for the Marlins.

The Marlins edged the Mariners in a crisp extra inning affair at Cleveland Circle. After the Mariners tied the game in the bottom of the 7th at 1-1, with Brendan Power scoring on a clutch two out double by Josh Plosker, the Marlins answered in the top of the 8th. With one out, Josh Misiph tripled to right and scored on a groundout by Pat Allen.

The Mariners mounted a threat in the bottom of the inning, with Corey Aldoupolis being stranded at third after his one out triple. Kevin Gallagher took the hard luck loss for the Mariners, going the full 8 innings and allowing only 5 hits.

Bill Elliott picked up the win for the Fish, throwing 3 1/3 innings in relief of starter Gary Martin, who was outstanding on the mound before being forced to leave the game in the 5th inning after fracturing the humerus bone in his right arm while delivering a pitch.

Diamondbacks' pitcher Scott Hruzd took a no-hitter into the 7th in the D'backs 8-1 win over the Marlins. Hruzd was dominant over the first 6 innings facing only one over the minimum. Carl Cyr led off the bottom of the seventh with the only Marlin hit of the night and later broke up the shutout on a sacrifice fly. Hruzd was assisted by strong up-the-middle defense with Brian Kilpatrick and "Skip" Antash playing flawlessly. After being stymied for the first 3 innings, the D'backs offense scored 2 in the forth and then broke the game open in the sixth when they batted around. Jeremy Broadwell (2 for 4, 2 RBI), Hruzd (2 for 4, 1 RBI), and Kilpatrick (3 for 4, 3 runs scored) all had multi-hit games. In addition to calling a great game behind the plate, Jeff Cain also scored 2 of the D'backs 8 runs.

The Marlins prevailed on the strength of a balanced offensive attack and a great effort from Chris Ryan on the mound. Nine Marlins had hits in the game, including Ryan, 3 for 3 including a 3 run double, which improved his average to a lofty .733; Matt King, 3 for 3 with a run scored; and Dan Nucci, who singled and walked in three trips. Josh Misiph knocked in two runs with a long first inning double, and Andy Katz, Karl Cyr and Paul Bracco all scored two runs in the game as well.
Ryan faced the minimum over his five innings of work, allowing only 1 hit and 1 walk and picking two Broncos off of first base. The Marlin fielding was solid as well, committing only one error and turning a double play to stifle a Bronco rally in the third.

Ryan collects his first MABL win; Bracco played stellar D in center; Mierisch has pitched in 8 of 9 games.

The Marlins and Reds played a close affair at a damp and drizzly Kelley Field on Sunday morning. Andrew Mierisch pitched his third consecutive complete game in which he starts as he limited the dangerous Reds offense to four hits over 7 innings.

Andy Katz went 2 for 4 with two runs scored including a highlight film diving catch along the right field line in the 5th inning.

Bill Elliott went 2 for 4 with a clutch two-run single in the fifth. Chris Ryan also was 3 for 3 with 2 RBI's and on base four times.

In his first start of the season Tom Spoth dominated. Tom pitched a shutout while striking out 10 and only giving up 2 hits. Only 3 balls reached the outfield all game long. The Royals broke through against Andy Mierisch in the 4th on back to back singles by Felix Villalobos and Greg Kosc who were both plated by sacrifice flies. Sam Elsner was 1 for 1 on the day with 2 RBIs for the Royals. For the Marlins, Mierisch pitched a comlete game yielding only 4 hits and striking out 5.

In an exciting back and forth game, the Yankees edged out the Marlins and won in their last at bat for the 2nd straight game.

The Yankees jumped out to an early lead by scoring 2 in the 4th inning on a Mike Moloney (1-4, 3R, 2 SB) triple and two doubles by Jeff Coveney (2-4, 2B, 3 RBI) and Sean Murphy (3-3, 2 2B, RBI).

The Marlins answered in the bottom of the inning with a run scoring double by Paul Bracco and a passed ball. The Marlins then took the lead with 4 big runs in the 5th highlighted by a Patrick Allen double.

In the 6th, the Yanks tied it up by scoring 4 runs on a 2-run gap homerun by Bucciarelli and a clutch 2-out, 2-run pinch hitting single by Greg Crossman.

In the top of the 7th, the drama continued. After Bucciarelli knocked his 3rd hit of the game and Moloney reached on an error, the stage was set for Coveney who roped the game winning 2-run single to left center.

Andrew Mierisch was the story on the mound for the Marlins, scattering 3 hits and striking out 10 in a complete game victory, including all three batters he faced in the 7th inning. On offense, Joe Montoya reached base four times and scored three runs, Paul Bracco went 3 for 4 with 4 RBI's, and Josh Misiph was a perfect 2 for 2 with a double.
For the Orioles, Ed Palizollo pitched well in a losing effort, and Jay Thomas hit a loud triple to center to start a late inning rally.

Chris Allen won for his 2nd time in 2 starts, as the Braves broke open a close game by winning 11-2. Eric August's bases clearing double was the big blow in the 8 run 5th inning. Mark Doucette recorded his 2nd save of the season, getting a strike out to end the top of the 5th with the tying run on 1st base. Bill Elliott pitched very well for the Marlins, holding the Braves to 2 runs until the 5th inning.

Chris Allen notches win #2 and Mark Doucette earns his second save.

Sam Voolich picked up his first win of the season for the White Sox, tossing 4 innings and allowing 5 scattered hits and no earned runs. Rob Gnoinski and Al Wiesner combined for the final 3 innings, also not allowing an earned run.

Offensively, the Sox got of to a quick start with 5 runs in the 1st inning and never looked back. Aarron Hutchins (with a double) and Mike Lembo, each had a pair of hits. Lembo, who also picked up 2 RBI, currently leads the MABL with 8 RBI.

For the Marlins, Gary Martin led the fish with 2 hits.
