Tigers 9, Padres 7
Tigers rally to "esta callada" los Padres and the "lluvia" to pick up the 8-7 win. Josh Vernon gets his first start of the season, keeping the Padres hitters off balance through the first two frames. Run support would come for JV in the bottom half of the 2nd as the Tigers put up a 5-spot, only to relinquish that lead with a 4-run 3rd by the Padres. The Tigers battled back adding runs in the 4th & 5th highlighted by a PH Scott Stevens "missle" RBI triple and a Brian Houlding PH RBI single. Collin Johnson (W, 4 in, 2 H, 5 K) was impressive in relief picking up the W, as the Tigers pull out a close one, 8-7.
Game 2 of the double-dip was postponed due to rain after 3 1/2. |
