The Mariners finished out the season with a victory over the Diamondbacks thanks to a tremendous complete game effort by Nick Baseel plus some timely hitting. Baseel went the distance and allowed 3 hits and only 1 unearned run. For the offense, Chris Corde and Steve Limoges each had 2 hits and Pat Walters notched 2 RBI.

Congratulations to the Dbacks, who put together an outstanding inaugural season. They faced a tremendous amount of adversity that would have broken apart most other teams. But instead, this group banded together and formed a solid core that will be back with a vengeance in 2009.

Baseel notched the CG win, while Corde and Walters supplied the offense.

This was a see-saw battle that saw the A's go on top by scoring two in the 4th, only to see the Mariners score three in the bottom of the inning to take the lead. The A's would scrap together runs in the fifth and sixth to take a one run lead, and hung onto it for the series sweep.

For the A's, Andrew Billig went 3-for-3 with an RBI and Santi Mazzeo had two hits.

Ben's Dream White Sox 0 0 0 0 1 0 1 0 2 5 3

Just as was the case with the prior game between these two Atlantic division foes, this game was largely a pitchers duel between the M's Wade Briggs and the White Sox' Anthony Tomaro. The game went into the bottom of the 7th with the M's leading 2-1. With a runner on second and 1 out, a botched double play allowed the tying run to score. However, the M's were able to get the go ahead run to score in the top of the 8th thanks to an RBI single by Chris Corde. Briggs was able to close out the Sox in the bottom half of the inning to preserve the complete game victory.

For the M's, senior circuit-er Tarez McNeil has 2 hits and an RBI, and Frank Rich also had two hits. For the Sox, Anthony Tomaro and Mike Lembo each had a pair of hits.

Briggs went the distance for the CG win, while Corde knocked in the GWRBI; Tomaro pitched well and collected 2 hits

Mariners 0 0 3 0 0 0 5 8 7 1

The rubber match between the Mariners and Rangers proved to be a doozy. With the 2 prior games between the teams played very tightly, it was with little surprise that the M's found themselves within 1 run heading into the final frame. The M's Jamie Aldoupolis tied the score with a sacrifice fly to right that was dropped by the right fielder. Two batters later, the bases were loaded thanks to a single and an error. Michael Parker came to the plate with 1 out and hit a walk-off grand slam to left.

The M's offense came alive late to lead the team to victory. Parker had 2 hits and 5 RBI, while Jamie Aldoupolis (3 RBI) and Chris Corde each hit doubles. Wade Briggs pitched well, surrendering 3 hits and picking up the complete game victory.

For the Rangers, Chris daCamara had a 2-RBI triple, and Andy Katz chipped in with an RBI single.

Mariners 1 0 0 1 0 0 0 2 4 2

The Rangers staged a late inning comeback and moved into a 1st place tie with the Mariners atop the Atlantic Conference. Neil Doherty went the distance on the hill, and Chris Caprio provided the spark.

After the teams traded early inning runs, the Mariners broke ahead in the 4th when Corey Aldoupolis singled home Jason LaPointe. Mariner starter Nick Baseel kept the Ranger bats in check until the Rangers put up a crooked 4 in the top of the 6th. The inning was punctuated with an RBI double from Chris Caprio who aggressively stole 3rd and then scored with more smart baserunning.

Caprio was everywhere. After his 6th inning double, he made the last 5 defensive plays of the game and overall was involved in one-third of his defense's outs.

Less involved was an anonymous Ranger baserunner who was called out for abandoning 1st base after reaching safely. Ranger Manager Besegai argued the play but was unsure what he was arguing.

Doherty gets W; Caprio is a Renaissance man

The Mariners and Orioles played game 2 of their 2 game regular season series on a beautiful Saturday morning at Muzzy Field in Bristol, Connecticut. Muzzy Field was once home to the double A Bristol Red Sox, where such stars as Jim Rice, Dwight Evans, and Butch Hobson honed their skills. But on this day the pitchers were the story of the game, as the M's Pat Walters and the O's Victor Ruiz both pitched brilliantly.

The M's strung together 3 hits in the 5th inning to notch 2 runs, the only runs of the day. Both Walters and Ruiz went the distance in this one, but in the end it was Walters who stifled the O's on his way to a 3-0 record.

Walters spun a 2-hitter, while Dumont drove in 2; Ruiz pitched well in CG loss

The M's EJ Freni and the O's Bryan Healey went at it again, with last year's Acton game resulting in a 1-0 Mariner win and an all out pitching duel. This year? Not so much. Both sides broke out the lumber and notched 17 runs and 17 hits between the two clubs, with the M's Wade Briggs getting the O's Jordan Krall to line out with the tying run on base to end the game.

For the M's, Frank Rich, Dave Salafia and Jamie Aldoupolis had multi-hit games, as did the O's draftee Bill Connor. The M's Corey Aldoupolis and the O's Jordan Krall each had solo homeruns. Pat Walters picked up the win in relief.
