Towne, behind Scott Hampe's pitching and shortstop Joe McCabe's turning four double plays, put a serious crimp in Cannon's playoff hopes by dropping them 1/2 game behind the Padres in Cannon's final game. Towne had a two-out RBi single from Wayne Duggan in the first and a two-out RBI triple from Pete Pasciucco in the fifth and also scored twice in the second when Brendan O'Connor issued five base on balls. Hampe threw shutout ball for 6 2/3 but Cannon made one final push with two out, nobody on as Jay Kiley, Pat Moore (RBI single) and Tony Iacopucci (RBI single) all reached after having two strikes on them. |

Nick Starusky hurled a coomplete game shutout to end Towne's playoff hopes and give Cannon a two point edge over the idle Padres in the race for the final post-season spot. Matt Shanahan and Ivan Clemente hit home runs, and the roof, walls and floor caved in with two-out in the 7th as Cannon put the game far out of reach. |

Carlson stayed hot with the bats scoring runs in every inning. Fabian Alicea capped off the night for the Carlson Club with a 3 run home run over the "green monster" at Jim Rice Field. Eric Velasquez earned his fifth win of the season throwing 6 innings on 5 hits. Shu Sasaki also went deep for Cannon. |

A 3 run double by Sasaki, his second of the game, in the 4th put Cannon ahead for good. A late charge by Palmer with 5 hits in the 6th was stopped by Grady Campion when he induced a bases loaded ground out from Songin to end the threat. Donaruma had 3 hits for Palmer, Keurulainen and Haberman each had a pair. |

Towne posted a seventh-inning come from behind to enable Dave Williams to post his third win against no defeats. Cannon had taken the lead on Anthony Iacopucci's two-out 6th inning single, but Wayne Duggan and Jim Klocek opened the Towne seventh with singles. A cheap broken bat bloop by McCabe tied the game and a squeeze by Molinari gave Towne the lead back. Kiley went 2 for 2 for Cannon. |

Few hits and great defense on both sides ended the game in about 90 minutes. |
