The Gigantes came out swinging, building an early 8-0 lead through three innings. However, the Mariners mounted a furious comeback, but fell just short, losing 8-7. Los Gigantes built their early lead courtesy of some well-rounded batting. Phil Martin and Pete John both had two hits with Martin and John also driving in one and two runs respectively. Carlos Escano, Elin Joel Torres, Jose Toledano, and Steve Duszlak each contributed with an RBI as well. Yulkin German and Torres added extra-base hits with doubles. On the mound, George Ziegler started for the Gigantes and put in an excellent four-inning performance, giving up no runs and striking out five while allowing just four hits. However, Gigantes relief pitching struggled in the fifth and sixth innings, allowing the Mariners' back into the game. Closer Jose Aquino just held on to earn the save.
