Wed, 17 August, 7:30PM, at Weymouth - Libby Field
South Shore Giants 11, Metro Red Sox 1
The Giants defeated the Red Sox, 11-1, in 6 innings by combining a strong offensive attack with stellar pitching.
Eric Bennett improved to 4-0 with a complete game gem, allowing just 4 hits and 1 walk. The only Red Sox run scored on an infield pop-up that resulted in a defensive miscue.
At the dish, the first 3 Giants of the game reached and scored in the bottom of the 1st inning. From that point on, all offense was insurance. There was a lot of perfection at the plate: Tim Day and Brett Rudy each went 3 for 3, while Darrell Tillmon went 2 for 2. Ed Swan also picked up 2 hits with 3 stolen bases.
For the Red Sox, Mark Moise had half his squad's hit - number 453 and 454 in his storied career.
Both teams remain in the playoff race with just a handful of games remaining. |
