NORFOLK -- In a classic rivalry matchup between two original 13 teams, Brandon Howard made his return to the mound after an eight-year hiatus from baseball in a spot start vs. the first place Canton Royals'. Standing at 6'5" 250 lbs, Howard commanded the zone, striking out six, while going the distance in a gritty performance that would make his father proud. It was clear after the long layoff between games, the Mariners were looking to turn the tides in their underwhelming 3-4 start to the season. The squad showed up sporting their 2015 CABL Championship T-shirts, a reminder to themselves, and the Royals (who they beat in 2015) that they still are the class of the entire CABL. The M's hit the bats early, led by Palioca, Cushman, Boulter, & Howard. A miscue at 2nd made things interesting in the 7th but the Mariners held on for a statement victory.
