Fri, 9 June, 8:00PM, at Mt. Vernon Field - Lawrence
Norfolk County Mariners 5, Weymouth Cubs 4
LAWRENCE - For the Mariners, "home" never felt so awful. Just a hop, skip, & a jump away from where most of them went to high school in Wrentham (and sadly enough, where many of them still live with their parents) the Mariners arrived at Mt. Vernon Park after an exhausting 80 minute journey. The M's made themselves at home in the first inning, highlighted by a titanic 2 run double off the bat of old friend Alec Palioca (3-3,2B,2RBI,R,SB) who casually vomited after reaching 2nd. Billy Hunt was an unsung hero for the Mariners, dropping a sac bunt that led to a run in the 2nd & collecting an RBI single in the 4th. Hunts extra focus & determination Friday likely stemmed from guilt over choosing to attend his niece's dance recital rather than attend the Mariner's Giants playoff rematch Sunday. The Cubs inched closer against starter Chris Horne, but in the end came up just short. M's win 5-4 & improve to 6-1 on the season. |
