Sun, 23 April, 5:00PM, at Twi Field - Danvers
Pepperell Red Dogs 4, Bay State Pirates 1
The Red Dogs opened their 2017 campaign against the Quincy Pirates in a well played game at TWI Field in Danvers. The Red Dog bats came out hot early, getting out to a 3-0 lead after the first two innings, thanks to some toughness in the box taking HBPs and timely hitting to drive in runs. The Dogs' offense was led by leadoff hitter Rob Mershon, who lined two hard singles on the first pitch of each of his at bats in the first two innings, while scoring a run and driving in another.
Jeff Tully dominated on the mound all day, throwing 6 innings of 1 run ball on 100 pitches even, striking out 6 and only allowing 4 hits and 2 walks. Justin Roberts closed the game out with a strong 7th to record his first save of the season.
The Dogs now turn their attention to top CABL team, the Norfolk County Mariners, in a tough road matchup next Sunday afternoon, for what should be a great early season test for both teams. |
