Cardinals 5, Marlins 4
The Cardinals grit out a win in the last inning on a clutch 2 out, 2 run hit by Brian McCarthy to edge the Marlins 5-4 Friday night at Chelsea High. Jeff James went the distance for the Cards allowing 8 hits and 4 runs - 3 earned - while walking 3 and striking out 8. Billy MacDougal (2-3, 3B, 1R) led the Cards offensively and Vin Paquette (1-2, HR, 1R, 1RBI) chipped in as well. MacDougal's triple was a mammoth blast that landed at home plate in the softball field. Vin Paquette's homer was also a shot that cleared the Town of Chelsea itself!
The Cards were trailing 4-3 going into the 7th when McCarthy stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and 2 outs and took a 1-2 pitch the other way just out of the valiant reach of Marlin leftfielder Joseph Montoya. Offensively for the Marlins, Chris Ryan took Jeff James deep in the 4th inning with a frozen rope homer that left a divot in the right field weeds. Kevin Brennan was the toug |
