Palmer faced a scrappy Padres ballclub that has been rolling as of late. Padres jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st. Palmer tied it up in the bottom of the inning. Padres continued swinging hot bats as they held a 5-2 lead heading into the bottom of the 6th when Palmer bats awoke. Palmer scored 4 runs in the 6th which included a 1-out, 2 run single By Jimmy Pierce to take the lead for good. The hit was especially surprising as Pierce's bat had been rather flaccid throughout the early season. Bobby Foote helped lead the Palmer offense going 2-3 with a 2B, BB, an RBI, and a SB. Two dynamite pitching performances by the Padres' Bobby Madden and Palmer's Chris Anderson, who came into the game in the 3rd inning and went the rest of the way to get his 1st win of the season.
