Kit Kadlec hurled a 2-hit shutout as the Mets topped the Rockies 5-0. Kadlec (2-1, 1.46) struck out 10, including the side in the 7th, and walked 3 in the complete-game win.
The Mets jumped out to an early lead with a 4-spot in the 1st. Greg Cote singled home Jay Joyce for the first run, and Dave McManus clouted a 3-run double for a 4-0 lead. In the 7th, Cote singled home the final Mets run.
Cote and Kadlec each had 2 hits for the Mets, and Joyce stole 3 bases. Al Becker and McManus combined to throw a runner out at the plate and Kadlec, Jason Blye and Cote combined on a 1-2-3 double play to escape a bases-loaded, 1-out jam in the 6th.
For the Rockies, Chris Clark took a tough loss, allowing just 1 earned run and 5 hits over 7 innings. Brian Cooper (double) and Gary Moran had the Rockies hits. |
