Lexington righthander Marc Hewett outdueled Americans' southpaw Orazio Azzarello in the season opener for both teams as the Blue Sox held on to win 3-2.

Ethan Burton pitched a perfect seventh inning and picked up the save for Lexington.

Ryan McNiff relieved Azzarello after a lead off single in the sixth and pitched two innings of hitless, one walk baseball.

Hewett pitched 5.2 innings of hitless ball before Steve Panza, following a walk to Steve Tahmoush, got the Americans' first hit, an infield single. Both runners scored when Sam Shaughnessy drove a double to the left center field gap.

The Blue Sox got 2 runs in the second inning when Ben Hewett's ground out to short scored Anthony Santos. Jack Laurendo doubled home the second run of the inning. Lexington scored the winning run with two outs in the fifth inning on a passed ball after loading the bases with a hit and 2 walks.
