Lexington righthander Marc Hewett outdueled Americans' southpaw Orazio Azzarello in the season opener for both teams as the Blue Sox held on to win 3-2. Ethan Burton pitched a perfect seventh inning and picked up the save for Lexington. Ryan McNiff relieved Azzarello after a lead off single in the sixth and pitched two innings of hitless, one walk baseball. Hewett pitched 5.2 innings of hitless ball before Steve Panza, following a walk to Steve Tahmoush, got the Americans' first hit, an infield single. Both runners scored when Sam Shaughnessy drove a double to the left center field gap. The Blue Sox got 2 runs in the second inning when Ben Hewett's ground out to short scored Anthony Santos.
