Resuming action on July 20, after prevailing on a protest, Towne struck for a walk-off victory as Tim Reinhardt (double) and Don Ferbert (hit batsman) led off the bottom of the 7th and both raced home on an almost identical error as on the play that had sparked the protest nine days earlier. Dan Merzel had three hits and three stolen bases (of six by Towne). Jim Klocek picked up the win with 4 2/3 innings of one-hit relief, taking over when play resumed, and perfectly executed a key sacrifice bunt in the winning rally.
