The White Sox picked up the win over the Astros behind a 5-hit complete game effort by Matt Lopresi. The 'stros threatened in the first for a big ininng, loading the bases with no out. Shu Sasaki and Don Vachon had hits that inning as well as walks by Mike Vernon and Sean Dowling, but MLo got out of the inning allowing just 1 run thanks to a double play. MLo allowed just 3 hits, 0 walks and 1 run the rest of the way. Though in defeat, Eric Harvey pitched well until the Sox bats started to get hot. The 4-run fifth put the Sox up for good, led by 2-RBI hits by John Byrne and Steve Baldassari. Omar Ortiz also had 3 hits on the day.
