It was a recipe for disaster. 10am start. In Acton. A lineup card of only 9 players, 5 minutes before the first pitch. 8 game winner Bryan Healey on the hill for the opposition. All bad news. The good news, in two words and 67 inches, Eric Harvey. Napoleanic autocrat that he is, Harvey allowed his teammates a paltry 6 putouts in the field. His selfish behavior, striking out 15 (including 8 in a row to open the game), was thuggery that could be appreciated only by a person of demeanor most uncouth (e.g. an A-Rod apologist). As someone who had to endure that display, I will only say further that he gave up 3 hits and no walks in 7 shutout innings, and went 0-4 at the plate.
As for the offense, rookie Donny Vachon had a breakout day with 3H, two 2B, 2R, and 3RBI. Mike Byrne launched twin lumberjackian doubles that plated two more, and Shu Sasaki also had a multi-hit game as he and Mayes added an RBI each.
