The Pride of Wilmington Joe Burns pitched 8 innings in a complete game extra inning affair win over the A's, 6-5. Burns battled recording 7 strikeouts and allowing only 6 hits. A's starter Kevin McGowin held the Senator bats at bay until the 6th when Jim O'Donnell (Wilmington's Favorite Son) and Greg Conant led off with back to back hits. Joe Lombardi would walk and then Wilmington's All-Star, Matt Coyne, delivered a key double down the line. Later in the inning John Howe (3-4) would tie it up on a clutch line drive to left. The A's Santi Mazzeo put them up by 1 again with a sac fly. In the bottom of the 7th the Senators would tie it up again on a hit batsman after loading the bases. Burns would shut down the A's in the top of the 8th. In the bottom, with 2 outs, Wilmington's Most Versatile Athlete, Dan Sweet, would bunt for a hit, steal second and Wilmington's Hero, Eric Clancy would plate the winning run on a deep drive to left.
