In game one of a double-header, the Diamondbacks were able to hold off the Reds for a 5-4 victory. The D'backs were led by another great start from Jeff Cain who gave up only 3 earned runs and struck out 6 on his way to recording his second complete game victory of the season. He was helped by his catcher, Aaron Molloy, who threw out two would-be basestealers. On the offensive side, the D'backs were led by Jeremy Broadwell and Scott Hruzd. The pair knocked in all five of the D'backs' runs. The Reds mounted a comeback in the top of the seventh with Matt Baier (2 for 3 with a RBI) on third and Chris Chase (3 for 4), the winning run, on first. Cain was able to secure the win by getting the Reds clean-up hitter to fly out to right. |
