Cubs 4, Cardinals 3
The Cardinals jumped out in the top of the first with 2 runs but the Cubs followed up with 4 of their own in the bottom half. Keith Umlauf stayed strong all 7 innings, striking out 6 and benefiting from an appeal at 3rd base where a Cardinal player missed the bag on the way home. That run would have tied the game in the 5th, but instead the scored remained 4-3. Finally, the Cardinals had runners at 2nd and 3rd with two outs in the top of the 7th, but Mike Pietrasiewicz made a bang bang play on a ball deep in the hole at short for the final out. |
