Marlins 4, Astros 1
The beltless Chancellor neiled down his third win of the season by outdueling Astros ace Eric Harvey in a 4-1 victory. Doherty scattered eight hits and allowed only an unearned run in 6 2/3 IP while matching his season high with a mindnumbing two strikeouts.
The Fish got things started early when Andy Katz (2-2) blooped a single to center, advanced on a groundout, and scored a ribcracking run on a Paul Bracco single. In the second, Pat Allen manufactured a run with a single and some blazingly fast baserunning, and Mike Mori and Davin Wilfrid each added an RBI double to pad the lead to 4-0 in the third. Doherty stayed out of trouble until the seventh when three singles and an error scored a run and loaded the bases. Summoned with two outs, Kevin Brennan delivered a three pitch K to pick up his first save of the season.
Harvey pitched well in defeat, striking out eight, and Astros centerfielder Jon Mayes was 3-3 on the day. |
