The tradition of close games between these two teams continued as a shorthanded Wayland team defeated a tough Wellesley team 6-5. Offensively for Wayland, Steve Wolf was 4-5, scored 3 times, and stole a base. He also made 2 nice defensive plays hauling in a long shot by Griffin of Wellesley, and with bases loaded 1 out made a running catch and threw home to nail the runner for a double play to end inning. Billy Gassett hit a bomb with the bases loaded that would have been a grand slam at Wayland High (but we were at Fallon) and settled for a sac fly, and Joe Calderella had a big 2 out, 2 run single. Bill Carlezon went 2-3 and also pitched well into the 5th inning, before Ramone Antigua came on to silence the Monarchs the rest of the way for the win.
