Starter Phil Motley got the win in game one, shutting down the Brawlers in five strong innings. Motley was lifted despite not allowing a hit, making way for Dana Erb. Erb struck out five of the six outs he recorded to keep the Brawlers off the board. The move to pull Motley made for lively discussion on talk-radio following the game, but Comets manager Matt Gionta defended the decision in his post-game press conference. "Phil and I had a plan going into the game and we were determined to stick with it. Our goal was five strong innings and Phil accomplished that, so we're pleased." Mark Duffy picked-up the first RBI of the contest, sending a single down the right field line in the second inning. Gavin White and Jon Gerwitz also added their own RBI knocks to pace the Comets offense.
