Sun, 15 May, 12:30PM, at Latshaw/McCarthy (Game 2 of DH)
Philadelphia Comets 13, Red Sox 0
The second game featured another stellar pitching performance by Ryan “hozenbager†Platzbecker. He pitched a complete game shutout, striking out 9 in the 13-0 rout, and finished the sweep. During the first four appearances of his career, the rookie sports an astounding 0.58 ERA while going 4-0 and striking out 35.
While the Comets' pitching was exceptional, the lineup continued their hot start with a team
batting average of .384. This was led by the top five spots in the order, which hit for a combined
14-33 with 13 RBI’s and 16 runs scored. Baker DeCamp led the sluggers, going 6 for 8 with a
triple. Gavin White, Adam Goldstein, Scott Kirby, and John Gerwitz each had multi-hit games. Yet, the gutsiest performance came from Matt Gionta in the second inning of game two. He battled at the plate with 2 outs, and slapped a 2 RBI single down the 3rd base line. This started the game off 2-0 and the Comets never looked back. |
